Music

Music is an integral part and strength of the worship at St Peter’s.

The Saturday vigil Mass uses a traditional selection of hymns with keyboard accompaniment.

Sunday Mass involves a combination of popular and contemporary hymns and includes our new Mass setting The Lindisfarne Mass. Hymns are often chosen from those that the children are singing in St Peter’s School.

The congregation are our wonderful choir (there is no bespoke choir). There are a group of cantors who sing the Psalms on a rotational basis.

Current instrumentalists consist of violins, guitars, recorders, flute, clarinet and keyboard. Primary school children are invited at the beginning of Mass to add percussion accompaniment.

New singers and instrumentalists of all ages are always encouraged and warmly welcomed. Please come and join us on any Sunday you are free.

As we have no regular practices we meet each week at 10.30 in church to run through the music for that day. We realise that with family, work and study commitments it is difficult to make it to this Mass each week so please feel free to be flexible.

As well as music for the Mass, musicians are also involved in providing the music for other celebrations such as Confirmation and First Holy Communion, Baptisms, Weddings and funerals.

For further information please speak to us after Mass.
